Hike Cinque Terre: Vernazza-Monterosso

A fabulous hike excursion to discover the Cinque Terre National Park.
Accompanied by a certified environmental and hiking guide, you will walk along part of the famous Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Trail) which links all five villages: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso.
Why choose a walking tour in the Cinque Terre? Because in this way you will be able to grasp the true essence of this marvellous and fragile territory of Liguria: panoramas unique in the world, terraces overlooking the sea dedicated to the cultivation of vines, the scents of a luxuriant Mediterranean maquis, the famous dry-stone walls built thanks to the ingenuity of man who in more than a thousand years has “modified” the natural environment… all this is Cinque Terre!

Walking time: 2 hours
Difficulty: EE – For experienced hikers
Length: 3.7 km
Height difference: +/- 220 m

You will meet your guide at the train station of Monterosso al Mare, the first village in the Cinque Terre National Park coming from the west. Before starting our excursion along the blue trail, you will visit the village and its main monuments. Monterosso is divided into two settlements: Fegina, where the main beaches and accommodation facilities are located, and the old village where you can admire the classic coloured houses, the 14th century church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and, with a short walk, the Convento dei frati Cappuccini from where you can enjoy a splendid view of the village.
From Monterosso we will then start our hike along the portion of the blue trail that will lead us to the second village of the Cinque Terre, Vernazza. The first part of the path climbs from sea level up to 220 m (maximum altitude of the hike) and you will be accompanied by the colours and scents of the famous lemon groves, which make the village of Monterosso unique (don’t miss: lemon marmalade!). Continuing towards Vernazza, the environment changes and after a first portion of the path characterised by luxuriant Mediterranean scrub, you will encounter terraced strips dedicated to the cultivation of olive trees and vineyards.
The view suddenly opens out onto the marvellous Vernazza. From this vantage point, you will be able to capture the true essence of the village: its natural harbour, the main square by the sea with the Church of Santa Margherita d’Antiochia dating back to the 12th century, the castle with its circular tower that almost resembles a ship ready to “take to the sea”…. Vernazza represents the authentic Ligurian seaside village in all its aspects.

After a tour of the village you can choose to enjoy a delicious lemon ice cream or, why not, a fish fry!
